  @sentoutbytheword why would the democrats or the media want you to wear a mask without there being a need for it, like, are the mask companies paying them, no, like, what do we get out of you wearing a mask, except for the fact that it greatly reduces our chances of contracting

The point is that if everyones wearing a mask, the transmission rate will drop dramatically. The cloud of germs you release when you cough or sneeze is greatly reduced, and if *rando* has a mask on too, it’s highly unlikely that he’ll breathe the remaining particles

  @MilfHunterKakyoin oh so why don’t we just wear masks the rest of our lives whenever someone has the flu or just a mild cold. It’s basically just like any other virus except we didn’t wear masks with the others. This one isn’t even as bad as regular flu

Also, the pee example does apply here. Viruses don’t just float through the air on their own, they’re attached to aerosolized water droplets. While a cloth mask doesn’t stop every single particle, it greatly REDUCES the amount of particles that you are spreading into the air

Again this article is talking about “limited evidence for their effectiveness at preventing influenza virus transmission.” Nowhere does this article mention covid.
